Lent: The Potter’s Hands

Our theme for Lent has been “The Potter’s Hands”. We have been sharing how we are using the Potter’s hands in our daily life through our “good deeds”, etc. Along with that our mission opportunities have given us more chances to serve and use the Potter’s hands.

Congregants used their talents and hands to create goods to be shared with those in need.  People put together a meal for the homeless and collected spices to add to the meals made at the shelter. Warm and cozy tied fleece blankets were made. A favorite activity was led by one of our talented congregants. She taught us how to make lotion and bath scrub which were bottled and packed in brightly colored gift bags. Bags will be shared with others who can use a lift.

The congregations also gave of themselves by donating books and puzzles to Wizard’s Wardrobe which tutors young ones in  the South End of Albany, collecting board books and scarves for the young mothers and babies who use Mary’s Corner, and donating gift cards, stuffed animals and candy to supplement Easter baskets for 7 families in need.

Our last activity of mission during Lent was our annual One Great Hour of Sharing auction. Handmade and household goods are donated to be auctioned.  A night of delicious desserts, lots of laughs, and time with friends brought about a successful auction raising over $2000 for OGHS.
